Introducing Kyoto Claw, a claw machine arcade based in Hamilton, offering a fun and playful escape from everyday life.
For this project, Kyoto Claw approached me with the goal of designing an engaging and inviting window decal to attract foot traffic. They wanted their storefront to clearly communicate that this was the ultimate destination for claw machines and plush toys—using bold branding and large, playful graphic elements.
I was responsible for creating three window decals and a matching door decal, all designed in a cute, maximalist style. One of the most exciting aspects of this project was the creative freedom I was given, allowing me to align the designs with my own stylistic preferences. The client provided minimal brand guidelines, using this project as a foundation for developing their visual identity for future assets.
The initial concepts were sketched in Procreate and then vectorized in Adobe Illustrator. The centre piece of the compositions was their mascot, a Shiba Inu. One of the key challenges was vectorizing the mascot while staying true to the original design. This process required careful adjustments to achieve visual balance and create a flexible base for future variations. By developing a strong foundational pose and refining the mascot’s core features, I was able to streamline the process of posing the character and expressing different emotions and moods.
After several in-person feedback sessions and close collaboration with the client, the project culminated in vibrant, eye-catching window decals that brought a burst of colour and energy to the scene of downtown Hamilton.
